- University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Brachytherapy Fellowship
Description
The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) will offer a non-ACGME fellowship for radiation oncologists including new residency graduates who wish to develop technical skills and clinical expertise in HDR brachytherapy for malignant diseases. The main focus of the training will be on genitourinary cancers but there will be opportunities for involvement in other sites, mainly gynecologic and head and neck cancers. Prior brachytherapy experience is encouraged but not required.
Hundreds of patients are treated with HDR brachytherapy each year at UCSF. Patients are treated in 2 locations (Mission Bay and Mt. Zion hospitals) including the State-of-the-Art HDR brachytherapy suite in the Mission Bay Campus which also has an MR simulator. The fellow will develop clinical skills for the assessment of patients, clinical decision making, intra-operative ultrasound application, and HDR technique. The fellow will rotate with attending physicians within the clinical brachytherapy service, assisting with patient care coordination, and will develop a robust clinical research portfolio in brachytherapy. The fellow will be also expected to present cases at weekly conferences and participate in brachytherapy educational didactics and simulations for residents.
