Job DescriptionThe University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Center for Advanced Microbiome Research and Innovation (CAMRI) at the Institute for Genome Sciences (IGS) is recruiting for a Contractual Senior Clinical Research Assistant. The candidate will join the Brotman Laboratory and contribute to high-impact research at the intersection of epidemiology, microbiome science, and women's health. The Brotman Laboratory's work focuses on understanding how the urogenital microbiome influences susceptibility to sexually transmitted infections (STIs), bacterial vaginosis (BV), urinary tract infections (UTIs), and the genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM).
This is an opportunity to play a central role in advancing projects from study design through publication, in close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team spanning epidemiology, statistics, genomics, microbiology, and clinical research. The position also offers the opportunity to help design and launch new interventional studies, including those involving live biotherapeutics.

Primary Duties:
- Coordinate and support execution of epidemiologic studies and emerging clinical trial efforts.
- Develop and establish REDCap databases and coordinate study surveys.
- Coordinate data structure, harmonization, and biospecimen tracking to ensure data integrity.
- Contribute to the development and launch of clinical trials, including assistance in preparing protocol development and IRB applications, and coordination with clinical sites.
- Serve as a central point of coordination across investigators, analysts, and clinical collaborators.
- Contribute to grant development and future study design.
- Conduct and interpret epidemiologic and multi-omic analyses (e.g., longitudinal, case-control, high-dimensional data).
- Translate complex findings into high-quality manuscripts and scientific presentations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in a scientific field of study related to the research of the clinical setting. Master's degree in epidemiology, public health, microbiology, bioinformatics, or a related field preferred.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in clinical research in research being performed in unit.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
- Strong quantitative skills with experience in statistical analysis (e.g., R, Python, or Stata)
- Experience working with longitudinal data, infectious disease epidemiology, or complex datasets
- Demonstrated ability to advance projects and contribute to peer-reviewed publications
- Strong organizational and project leadership skills, with the ability to bring structure to complex work
- Knowledgeable in microbiome science and women's health
- Experience with microbiome or multi-omic data, clinical research, and grant writing
Other: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted.

Hiring Range: $56,500 - $60,000 commensurate with education and experience.
