Wills Eye Hospital, a world-renowned leader in ophthalmic care, education, and research, is seeking full-time Staff Ophthalmologist with fellowship training and a clinical focus in glaucoma to join our distinguished Glaucoma Service.

Established in 1832 as the nation’s first hospital specializing exclusively in eye care, Wills Eye is a global leader in ophthalmology and serves more than 350,000 patients each year. Wills Eye also serves as the Department of Ophthalmology for Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University and is home to nationally and internationally recognized physicians, educators, and researchers.

The Wills Eye Glaucoma Service is one of the largest and foremost programs dedicated to glaucoma in the United States. Established in 1963, the service has a longstanding tradition of advancing the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma while educating future leaders in the field.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist to join a nationally and internationally recognized ophthalmology institution with a longstanding commitment to excellence in patient care, education, and research.

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive medical and surgical care to patients with glaucoma and related conditions within a highly collaborative and academically oriented environment. Physicians have the opportunity to care for a diverse patient population, including patients referred to Wills Eye for the evaluation and treatment of complex ophthalmic disease.

The position also offers opportunities to contribute to the education and development of residents and fellows and to participate in clinical research and other scholarly activities based upon the candidate’s interests. The Glaucoma Service maintains an active research environment that includes clinical trials, imaging studies, device research, and continued innovation in medical and surgical glaucoma care.

Requirements

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a board-certified or board-eligible ophthalmologist who has completed fellowship training in glaucoma and is committed to delivering exceptional patient care.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

• Strong clinical and surgical expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma.
• Experience with contemporary medical, laser, and surgical approaches to glaucoma management.
• A commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.
• An interest in teaching residents, fellows, and other ophthalmic professionals.
• An interest in clinical research, innovation, and academic ophthalmology.
• Eligibility for medical licensure in Pennsylvania.
• The ability to practice effectively in a high-volume, sophisticated clinical environment with access to advanced technology, multidisciplinary expertise,  and extensive institutional resources.
