- Advanced Structural Heart Program Fellow
Description
The Advanced Structural Heart Program at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is sponsoring a one-year fellowship that provides training in structural heart disease decision making, interventions, and surgery to outstanding candidates who have completed categorical cardiac surgery residency. The fellowship is based at OHSU, a tertiary/quaternary academic medical center serving Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. The program has state-of-the-art facilities for the evaluation and treatment of structural heart patients and participates in numerous trials evaluating devices for the treatment of aortic, mitral, and tricuspid valve conditions.
The Structural Heart Fellow will participate fully in all phases of the program, acquire all skills required to become a proficient in the care of patients suffering from complex valvular diseases, develop a deep understanding of the pathophysiology and literature that inform our treatment, and contribute to clinical research. Individuals will be exposed to and become expert in:
- Complex open surgical valve repair
- Valve sparing aortic root replacement
- Aortic root enlargement
- MVR in the setting of severe mitral annular calcification
- Minimally invasive approaches to surgical valve repair and replacement
- Trans-catheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) with Edwards (SAPIEN 3), Medtronic (Evolut Pro) and Boston Scientific (Lotus Edge) trans-catheter valves
- Aortic valvuloplasty
- Trans-catheter mitral valve repair (Mitraclip)
- Trans-catheter balloon mitral valvuloplasty
- Trans-septal puncture and intracardiac echocardiography
- PFO/ASD/PDA closure (Cardioform, Amplatzer)
- Para-valvular leak closure
- Advanced LV support (Balloon pump, lmpella, ECMO)
- Exposure to cutting edge EFS and Pivotal clinical trials in the field of SHD
